Jackson police said officers found a woman’s body hanging from a tree behind a vacant home in the 500 block of Road of Remembrance on Monday night.
In a 9:05 p.m. Monday social media post, the department said the woman was an unidentified Black woman and that crime scene investigators were working to determine the circumstances of her death.
Hinds County Coroner Jeremiah Howard confirmed to The Clarion-Ledger that police are investigating. Howard said the body is being transported to the Mississippi State Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy.
As of Tuesday night, police had not released the woman’s identity. Jackson police asked anyone with information to call the Jackson Police Department at 601-960-1800 or Crime Stoppers at 601-355-8477.
