Belhaven softball returns to Division III College World Series
Belhaven University said its softball team advanced to the NCAA Division III College World Series after sweeping Wisconsin-Oshkosh in the Jackson Super Regional.
The Blazers (42-10) won a 5-1 game Thursday in Jackson and followed with a 10-2 victory Friday to clinch one of eight berths to Salem, Virginia, the school said. Belhaven had earlier advanced through a home regional, the school said.
Belhaven credited junior pitcher Macy Funderburk with a complete game in the opener, allowing four hits and one run. The school said she added the win in game two, working 5 1/3 innings and allowing two runs, and was named Jackson Super Regional Most Outstanding Pitcher.
Belhaven said junior Liberty Gillihan went 3-for-7 in the series with a triple, a double, four RBIs and three runs scored. The school named her Jackson Super Regional Most Outstanding Player.
The school said Belhaven will enter the College World Series as the No. 7 seed and will open against No. 2 seed and defending national champion Trine on Thursday, May 28, with first pitch set for 3 p.m. CT. Belhaven finished as the national runner-up in 2024, the school said.
