Juvenile killed in officer-involved shooting at Senatobia Walmart

A juvenile was killed and another person was critically injured after an officer fired at a vehicle following a shoplifting call at a Walmart in Senatobia, Mississippi, authorities said.

Senatobia Police Department officers and Tate County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the Walmart on U.S. 51 just after 2 p.m. Sunday, authorities said.

Police said they encountered two subjects and a juvenile fleeing the store and getting into a vehicle. Officers attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver drove toward officers, nearly striking one, police said.

An officer fired a squad-issued firearm as the vehicle fled the scene, authorities said. The vehicle later arrived at a local hospital, where the unidentified juvenile was pronounced dead. Another unidentified person was reported in critical condition.

No law enforcement officers received any serious physical injuries, authorities said. Officials with the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation said they are assessing the incident and will share their findings with the Mississippi Attorney General’s Office when the probe is complete.
