Millsaps rallies past Belhaven 36-20 to win Riverside Rumble

Millsaps College rallied from an early deficit to beat Belhaven 36-20 Thursday night in the Riverside Rumble, according to a game summary from Millsaps.

Millsaps senior running back Tam Patterson fumbled twice in the first quarter, and one turnover led to former Majors quarterback Ian Burleson scoring on a 1-yard run to give Belhaven a 7-0 lead, the summary said. Millsaps kicker Connor Babin hit a 41-yard field goal late in the first quarter to cut the deficit to 7-3, the summary said.

From the second quarter on, Millsaps controlled the game despite being flagged 12 times, the game summary said. Derrick Tasby Jr. scored on a 5-yard run to put Millsaps ahead for the first time, and Mitch Taylor added a 12-yard rushing touchdown to make it 17-7 at halftime, the summary said.

Quarterback Grant Bizjack opened the third quarter with a 5-yard rushing touchdown, and Patterson caught a 23-yard TD pass from Bizjack to push the lead to 30-7, the summary said. Belhaven responded when Cayson Williams scored with seconds remaining in the third quarter to cut the margin to 30-14, the summary said.

An apparent Millsaps interception was negated by a roughing-the-passer penalty late in the fourth quarter, and Jacob DeAngelo scored on a 1-yard run to make it 30-20, the summary said. Patterson then broke a 25-yard run for his second touchdown and finished with 97 yards on 16 touches, and Millsaps claimed its second Riverside Rumble title in three years, the school said.
