Mississippi State falls one spot to No. 17 in AP Top 25 after 56-23 loss; Ole Miss remains No. 9
Mississippi State dropped one spot to No. 17 in The Associated Press Top 25 after its 56-23 loss to Alabama in Starkville, SuperTalk Mississippi reported on Oct. 4, 2026.
Ole Miss held steady at No. 9 in the poll, according to SuperTalk Mississippi. Alabama moved to No. 6 while LSU rose to No. 10.
The poll kept Texas at No. 1 for the fourth straight week, with Georgia at No. 2 and Notre Dame at No. 3. SuperTalk Mississippi reported that Texas received 61 of the 70 first-place votes.
Missouri jumped 11 spots to No. 14 after a 45-17 win over Florida, which dropped to No. 16. Pittsburgh entered the Top 25 at No. 25; Kentucky, No. 24 last week, fell out of the poll.
SuperTalk Mississippi published the full conference breakdown from the AP Top 25: SEC — No. 1 Texas, No. 2 Georgia, No. 6 Alabama, No. 9 Mississippi (Ole Miss), No. 10 LSU, No. 14 Missouri, No. 15 Tennessee, No. 16 Florida, No. 17 Mississippi State. Big Ten, Big 12 and other conference placings were included in the report.
