Ole Miss rises to No. 4; Mississippi State debuts at No. 24 in AP poll

Ole Miss moved up four spots to No. 4 in the AP Top 25 and Mississippi State entered the poll at No. 24, SuperTalk Mississippi reported on Sept. 20, 2026.

SuperTalk Mississippi said the Rebels, playing in Oxford, improved to 3-0 (1-0 SEC) and beat LSU behind quarterback Trinidad Chambliss. The outlet reported Chambliss completed 33 of 48 passes for 363 yards, two touchdowns and an interception, and identified Traylon Ray as his top target. Ole Miss led LSU 24-7 at halftime, reclaimed momentum on a 14-yard touchdown keeper by Chambliss in the fourth quarter, and converted a two-point attempt after LSU was called offsides twice to allow a JT Lindsey score, SuperTalk Mississippi wrote. A fourth-down interception ultimately sealed the game, the report said.

SuperTalk Mississippi said Mississippi State (3-0, 1-0 SEC) debuted at No. 24 after a 41-34 comeback win at South Carolina. The outlet reported Bulldog quarterback Kamario Taylor threw for 251 yards and four touchdowns, with receptions from Sanfrisco Magee, Zion Ragins, Marquis Johnson and Anthony Evans. SuperTalk Mississippi also noted a trick play in which Gracen Harris threw to tight end Sam West and that running back Fluff Bothwell ran for a season-high 115 yards. The report said Mississippi State’s defense forced two second-half interceptions from Gamecock quarterback LaNorris Sellers.

SuperTalk Mississippi published the full AP Top 25 listing and said the poll featured 11 SEC teams; the outlet placed Ole Miss at No. 4 and Mississippi State at No. 24.

SuperTalk Mississippi said both programs are scheduled to continue SEC play on Saturday, Sept. 26, 2026: Ole Miss at Florida at 2:30 p.m. CT and Mississippi State hosting Missouri at 6:45 p.m. CT. The outlet added both games can be heard on participating SuperTalk Mississippi stations.
