TUPELO — Two people have been charged with felony child abuse following the death of an infant at a Tupelo motel last week, the Tupelo Police Department announced.
Officers responded to a report of an unresponsive infant at the Super 7 Inn, 1500 McCullough Blvd., on Friday, Sept. 18. The infant was transported by ambulance to North Mississippi Medical Center and later pronounced dead.
After further investigation, police charged Daniel Ross, 37, of Plantersville, and Charity Burdine, 33, of Tupelo, with felony child abuse.
On Sept. 18, Tupelo Municipal Court Judge Allen ordered Ross and Burdine held without bond. Police said the case is active and ongoing, with further charges possible at a later date. The charges will be presented to the Lee County Grand Jury.
