Reenee McBride Porter appointed to Mississippi’s 10th Chancery Court seat

Mississippi Gov. Tate Reeves has appointed Renee McBride Porter to the 10th Chancery Court District in Marion County, filling a vacancy created by the upcoming retirement of Judge Chase Ford Morgan.

Judge Morgan plans to retire on Aug. 16, and Porter will assume the seat the next day, serving for the remainder of the current term, according to Reeves’ office.

Reeves praised Porter, saying she has dedicated her career to serving Mississippi families and children. “Her experience in chancery and youth court matters, combined with her commitment to public service, makes her exceptionally qualified,” Reeves said in a statement.

Porter earned her Juris Doctor from the University of Mississippi School of Law and a Bachelor of Science from the University of Southern Mississippi. She has operated a private practice since 1989, focusing on chancery cases, and has appellate experience before the Mississippi Court of Appeals and the Mississippi Supreme Court.

Additionally, Porter has 12 years of experience as Marion County’s guardian ad litem and has served as the city prosecutor for Columbia. She is running unopposed for the District 10, Place 1 chancery judgeship in the November 3 election.
