Treadway appointed to 21st Circuit Court in Mississippi

GOVERNOR TATE REEVES announced Wednesday the appointment of Craig Treadway of Olive Branch as Circuit Judge for Mississippi’s 21st Circuit Court District, Place 2. Treadway will fill the vacancy created when Judge Celeste Embry Wilson was appointed earlier this month to the Mississippi Supreme Court, Reeves said.

Reeves cited Treadway’s extensive experience as a lawyer, prosecutor, and judge as qualifications for the position. “Judge Treadway’s legal expertise and dedication to public service have prepared him for this important role,” Reeves said in a statement.

Since 2017, Treadway has served as the prosecutor for DeSoto County and has worked as a public defender. Prior to that, he spent a decade in private practice. He earned his law degree from the University of Mississippi School of Law and his undergraduate degree from the University of Mississippi. His tenure as judge begins September 1, and he will serve the remainder of a four-year term.

On the same day, Reeves issued a proclamation reopening the qualifying period for the Circuit Judge seat. The seven-day window will close at 5 p.m. on Aug. 25. Candidates wishing to run in the Nov. 3 general election must file qualifying papers with the Mississippi State Board of Election Commissioners.

The appointment and the reopening of the filing period were reported by Magnolia Tribune.
