Gov. Reeves appoints Sabrina Howell to 3rd Chancery District bench
Governor Tate Reeves announced the appointment of Sabrina D. Howell as a judge for Mississippi’s 3rd Chancery District. She will assume the position on July 1, filling the seat vacated by Senior Chancellor Percy L. Lynchard Jr., who is retiring June 29.
Reeves praised Howell’s extensive experience in Chancery Court, including roles as a youth court referee and family master. “Sabrina’s extensive Chancery Court experience, including her service as a youth court referee and family master, makes her exceptionally well-suited for this appointment,” Reeves said in a statement.
Howell has more than 20 years of trial experience in Mississippi courts and has tried hundreds of cases. She also served as a referee judge in Tate County’s Youth Court, taught as an adjunct professor at the University of Mississippi School of Law, and served as a past president of the Grenada County Bar Association.
She holds a Juris Doctor from the University of Mississippi, a Bachelor of Arts in English, and a Master of Criminal Justice from Delta State University. Howell will serve the remainder of Lynchard’s four-year term, which ends this year.
Howell is the only candidate to qualify for the District 3, Place 2 seat in this year’s election cycle. Lynchard was re-elected unopposed in November 2022.
