Skeletal remains found in abandoned Jackson building, police say
Skeletal remains were discovered Sunday in an abandoned building on Gallatin Street in Jackson, the Capitol Police Department said in a press release.
The department said officers were called at about 3:43 p.m. Sunday to assist Jackson firefighters at a scene where a small fire had been extinguished.
While surveying the scene, firefighters found what appeared to be skeletal remains within the building, the release said. Officials did not specify exactly where the small fire had been put out.
“Capitol Police is now actively investigating this death investigation,” the statement said. “No further questions will be answered at this time.” Officials did not say whether foul play is suspected, and no arrests have been announced, the release said.
