Two children younger than 5 found abandoned in Rankin County neighborhood
Two children younger than 5 were found abandoned Sunday evening in a Rankin County neighborhood, the Rankin County Sheriff’s Office said.
Deputies responded to the Castlewoods subdivision around 6:47 p.m. after a report that the children had been left without adult supervision near Azalea Court, the office said.
Deputies and residents canvassed the neighborhood for several hours seeking the children’s parents but were unable to locate them, officials said. The children were taken into custody by the MS Department of Child Protection Services, officials said.
Officials described the children as two Black girls younger than 5 who were wearing matching pink shirts with white bows and pink and white skirts. They are not believed to be twins, officials said.
Anyone who recognizes the children or has information was asked to call the Rankin County Sheriff’s Department at 601-825-1480, officials said.
