Three Children Airlifted, 18 Injured After Bus Crash in Lowndes County

LOWNDES COUNTY, Miss. — A Lowndes County School District bus carrying 22 students overturned Tuesday afternoon, ejecting several children and leaving 16 students and two adults injured, according to the Mississippi Highway Patrol.

Three of the injured children were airlifted to hospitals following the crash.

MHP said the bus was traveling north on Highway 45 around 3:15 p.m. when a car pulled out from Artesia Road in front of it. The crash caused the bus to roll over.

One student was flown directly from the scene to Birmingham, Alabama. Two other students were later airlifted from a Columbus hospital to Batson Children’s Hospital in Jackson for further medical evaluation, according to MHP.
