Trinidad Chambliss to Take Break After Court Ruling, Spring Practice at Ole Miss
OXFORD, Miss. — Mississippi quarterback Trinidad Chambliss said he will take a break from football and the spotlight after spring practice and a weekend meet-and-greet, saying he was “looking forward to it.”
Chambliss spoke after a closed week of spring drills that followed the fan event. Coach Pete Golding said he urged players to rest after spring workouts and exams, adding, “I told them I didn’t want to see them for a few weeks” and that they needed a “reset.”
The sixth-year senior secured an additional season of eligibility when the Mississippi Supreme Court denied the NCAA’s final appeal in March, a ruling Chambliss called stressful. “I knew I was going to play football somewhere, either the NFL or here (Ole Miss), but not knowing was tough,” he said.
Chambliss rose to the starting role after Austin Simmons was sidelined with an ankle injury. He totaled more than 3,900 yards and accounted for 30 touchdowns, and the Rebels finished 13-2 and No. 4 in the final AP Top 25, according to Ole Miss statistics. The season included victories over ranked teams and a College Football Playoff semifinal loss to Miami.
On3 estimated Chambliss’ name, image and likeness endorsements at $1.5 million. Ole Miss said its media department plans a Heisman Trophy campaign for Chambliss, who finished eighth in last season’s Heisman voting and has been mentioned alongside preseason front-runners such as Arch Manning and C.J. Carr in early lists.
