Police investigate after body found in Jackson creek

Police in Jackson are investigating after an unidentified Black man was found dead in a creek near Adkins Boulevard on Monday, police said.

Officers were notified about the body during a traffic stop along I-55 Frontage Road near Briarwood Drive, police said. When officers arrived at the creek, they saw the man, who was reported to be wearing black shorts and a black shirt.

First responders with the Jackson Fire Department removed the body from the water, the department said. Hinds County Coroner Jeremiah Howard conducted a preliminary examination and classified the incident as a death pending further investigation, Howard said.

Howard said the body was transported to the State Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy. Police did not immediately release additional information.
