American League blanks National League 4-0 in All-Star Game
The American League shut out the National League 4-0 at Citizens Bank Park on Tuesday, Fox News Digital and The Associated Press reported.
Toronto Blue Jays starter Dylan Cease struck out the side in the first inning, and 10 relievers combined to finish a three-hitter as AL pitchers recorded 15 of the game’s 27 strikeouts, Fox News Digital reported.
New York Yankees outfielder Cody Bellinger delivered a two-run single and teammate Ben Rice added an RBI single in the first against Cristopher Sánchez of the host Philadelphia Phillies. Chicago White Sox infielder Miguel Vargas hit an eighth-inning home run off Los Angeles Dodgers reliever Justin Wrobleski, who was pitching on his 26th birthday, for the game’s only extra-base hit, Fox News Digital reported.
The National League managed only three singles — Juan Soto in the fourth, Pete Crow-Armstrong in the eighth and Otto Lopez in the ninth — and failed to advance a runner past first, Fox News Digital reported. The AL won for the 18th time in 23 games and holds a 49-45-2 series lead overall, according to Fox News Digital.
Tampa Bay’s Junior Caminero was hit on the outside of his left hand by a 97.6 mph sinker from St. Louis closer Riley O’Brien in the third inning and immediately left the game; X-rays were negative, Fox News Digital reported. Philadelphia first baseman Kyle Schwarber led off for the NL after Shohei Ohtani skipped the game to undergo a knee procedure. Players will have Wednesday off before the Phillies host the New York Mets on Thursday, and regular-season action resumes Friday, Fox News Digital and The Associated Press reported.
