He acknowledged that while fans might not stop supporting their team over political statements, they do care about athletes’ political affiliations, especially when it involves Trump.
He also dismissed concerns that Dart’s actions might fracture the New York Giants locker room, citing the team’s diverse political support among players. Instead, Jones focused on criticizing Dart for what he called an “embarrassing” display and suggested that supporting Trump is a uniquely problematic stance, unlike support for other politicians like Kamala Harris or Barack Obama.
Jones’s comments reflect broader criticisms from some media members who perceive Trump as a divisive figure, contrasting with more lenient attitudes toward left-leaning politicians. Critics argue that such commentary often ignores the political diversity within teams and the broader political landscape, emphasizing a perceived double standard in sports media coverage.
