Kendrick Perkins involved in altercation at son’s AAU basketball game

Former NBA center and current ESPN analyst Kendrick Perkins was involved in an altercation at his son’s AAU basketball game in Norman, Oklahoma. A video from TMZ Sports shows Perkins being held back while shouting at someone not visible in the footage.

Perkins coaches his son’s YPG Perkins team. The game against Swaveway Playaz grew tense after a non-basketball foul, leading to Perkins yelling at an unseen individual as coaches tried to diffuse the situation. The video went viral, prompting Perkins to comment on social media, saying, “Damn right, and it probably won’t be the last time! I’m going to protect every single kid in my organization like they’re my own.”

Perkins discussed the incident during an appearance on ESPN’s “The Pat McAfee Show,” explaining he was trying to protect his players after a player from the opposing team body-slammed one of his players following the game. Perkins said he remained seated initially but stood up to intervene as chaos erupted, confronting the other team’s coach.

He added that the player involved in the altercation was a young man whose parents were not present at the game. Perkins said he felt responsible for his players’ safety and was committed to protecting them “by any means necessary.”

Perkins, a Texas native, played 14 seasons in the NBA, winning a championship with the Boston Celtics in 2008. He also played for the Oklahoma City Thunder, Cleveland Cavaliers, and New Orleans Pelicans before retiring. Perkins’s career averages included 6.4 points and 6.1 rebounds per game.
