Brooks Koepka criticized his performance after completing his first year back on the PGA Tour. He finished the Wyndham Championship with a final round of 70, ending the tournament 3-under par and in a tie for 67th place.
The result left Koepka 19 strokes behind the winner, Michael Brennan, and placed him 94th in the FedExCup standings. Only the top 70 advance to next week’s St. Jude Championship, the first of three playoff events, meaning Koepka will not compete in the postseason, according to the standings.
“I think it’s pretty pathetic that I can’t get through,” Koepka told Yahoo Sports after his round. “Zero top 10s basically in two years. To be in the prime of your career and be as good as I think I am, I think that’s very pathetic, disappointing.”
The five-time major champion left LIV Golf earlier this year to rejoin the PGA Tour but faced setbacks. The Tour estimated he missed out on roughly $85 million in potential earnings and limited his tournament entries. He is also ineligible for the $100 million FedExCup bonus this season.
Despite these setbacks, Koepka found some positives. During 16 starts, he made 11 cuts, including a T12 at The Masters and a T9 at the Cognizant Classic in March, which many viewed as a sign of a resurgence. He expressed enjoyment of returning to the Tour and is planning to compete internationally in DP World Tour events this fall.
“It’s been great. Honestly, I’ve loved it. I feel fantastic. The reception’s been great. Overall, happiness is 10 out of 10 and just excited,” Koepka said. He also noted he hopes to improve his putting, citing a lack of confidence on the greens.
Koepka indicated he plans to continue playing and aims to return to the PGA Tour grind this fall, while also participating in European events.
