Chicago police arrest suspects after attack on CBS crew near Adler Planetarium
Chicago police said multiple men attacked a CBS News Chicago reporter and photographer Monday afternoon near the Adler Planetarium. The incident occurred around 4:25 p.m. on the 900 block of East Solidarity Drive, police told Fox News Digital.
According to police, the suspects arrived in a white truck and exited the vehicle to approach the journalists. They shouted racial slurs at one of the reporters and ordered a dog to attack the photographer, police said. When the dog did not attack, the suspects damaged the journalists’ equipment. One suspect smashed the photographer’s camera, and another broke the windshield of the news truck, police added.
The journalists were unharmed during the confrontation. Police described the suspects as male offenders who approached the victims on the sidewalk. One offender directed a dog at a 54-year-old male victim while yelling slurs. After the dog did not attack, the offender became angry and damaged the victim’s property before fleeing in the truck.
Authorities later arrested multiple individuals following a police chase in Brighton Park. The chase involved a report of a gun being pointed at another person, police said. The incident remains under investigation.
In a statement, CBS expressed relief that their journalists are safe and described the attack as shocking and horrifying. Fox News Digital reached out to Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson for comment.
