Colbert largely eschews politics in final ‘Late Show’ on CBS

Stephen Colbert largely avoided politics and direct criticism of President Trump during his final broadcast of “The Late Show” on CBS on Thursday night, the program showed.

Colbert repeatedly thanked his staff and his viewers for supporting him during his 11 years on CBS, the broadcast said.

He read headlines of the day as part of his opening monologue and cracked light-hearted jokes, keeping the tone largely nonpolitical, the show indicated.

The broadcast marked the end of Colbert’s 11-year run on CBS and emphasized gratitude to colleagues and audience members rather than political commentary, according to the program.
