DHS: ICE officer fatally shot man in Maine after ‘fearing for public safety’
The Department of Homeland Security said Monday that an Immigration and Customs Enforcement officer shot and killed a man in Biddeford, Maine, after the officer said he feared for “public safety,” according to a post on the social media platform X.
ICE wrote on X that officers were conducting “targeted surveillance on the last known address” of an undocumented migrant in Biddeford when the encounter occurred, according to the post.
The department did not immediately provide additional details about the shooting, including the identity of the officer or the man, the timing of the incident or the circumstances that led to the use of deadly force, according to the X post.
DHS did not provide information about any ongoing investigations or comment from local authorities in the post, according to the department.
