England beat Mexico 3-2 Sunday at Mexico City’s Estadio Azteca, handing Mexico its first World Cup loss at the stadium and advancing to the quarterfinals, Outkick reported.

The match drew about 87,500 fans in a raucous atmosphere as Jude Bellingham scored twice in a two-minute span in the first half to put England ahead, Outkick reported. Julian Quiñones pulled one back for Mexico before halftime, trimming the deficit to 2-1, according to Outkick.

In the 53rd minute, England was reduced to 10 men when Jarell Quansah received a straight red card, Outkick said. Shortly after, Mexico goalkeeper Raúl Rangel fouled Anthony Gordon in the box, conceding a penalty that Harry Kane converted to restore a 3-1 lead, Outkick reported.

Mexico earned a penalty in the 69th minute, and Raúl Jiménez converted to make it 3-2, according to Outkick. England held on despite being a player down, absorbing sustained pressure in the closing stages, Outkick said.

The victory sends England into the quarterfinals against Norway, Outkick reported. Traveling England supporters celebrated in the stands, singing “Wonderwall,” Outkick said.
