Inspector General Finds Former Labor Secretary Fostered ‘Toxic’ Workplace

The Labor Department’s Office of Inspector General said Thursday that former Labor Secretary Lori Chavez-DeRemer fostered a “toxic, intimidating and humiliating” workplace while leading the department, according to a report released by the watchdog.

The investigation by the inspector general said Chavez-DeRemer regularly drank alcohol during the workday and failed to properly report expensive gifts, the report said.

Chavez-DeRemer resigned in April, the report noted.

The findings were detailed in the inspector general’s report released Thursday by the Labor Department’s Office of Inspector General.
