Extreme heat delays entry to National Mall for July 4 event, organizers say
Entry to the National Mall for a record-breaking fireworks show celebrating July 4 has been delayed, Freedom 250 organizers said Thursday.
The delay comes as Washington, D.C., braces for extreme heat ahead of the event billed as the “Salute to America 250 Celebration & Fireworks,” organizers said.
President Donald Trump insisted he would still deliver a lengthy speech at Saturday’s event, organizers said, despite forecasts that temperatures will climb to 107 degrees.
Organizers announced the change Thursday as officials monitored weather forecasts and conditions on the National Mall, the statement said.
