Country singer Martina McBride said Thursday she will not participate in a large concert on the National Mall next month to mark America’s 250th birthday, saying she had been misled about the nature of the event.
“I was presented with an opportunity to perform at a nonpartisan event but that turned out…” McBride said in a statement Thursday.
The concert is scheduled for next month on the National Mall as part of the 250th anniversary celebrations for the nation, according to event listings.
McBride announced her withdrawal on Thursday and said the presentation of the opportunity influenced her decision not to take part in the performance.
