President Donald Trump vowed Wednesday to send a $5,000 “dividend” to every American citizen after the midterm elections, but said the payments would occur only if Republicans retain control of Congress, he said.
Trump did not provide details on how the payments would work or how they would be funded, according to his remarks.
The pledge ties the proposed one-time payment to the outcome of the midterm elections, with Republicans’ control of Congress as the stated condition for the plan, Trump said.
Beyond the amount and the political condition, Trump offered no further specifics about eligibility, timing or administration of the payments, his comments showed.
