Trump offers $5,000 ‘dividend’ to every adult if GOP holds both chambers
President Donald Trump told supporters in Dallas that he would issue a $5,000 payment to every adult citizen if Republicans win both the House of Representatives and the Senate, a proposal he called the “Trump dividend,” Trump said at the GOP’s inaugural midterm convention.
Trump delivered the keynote address, touting his record since taking office for a second time and urging voters to treat him as if he were on the ballot. “I’m doing a great job,” he said, and asked supporters to “pretend that I’m on the ballot. I’m on the ballot, just one more time,” according to Fox News Digital.
He credited Republicans on Capitol Hill for passing what he described as the largest tax cuts in history and said those policies put “thousands of dollars into the pockets of working families.” He warned that voters would lose border security, tax cuts and other achievements if the GOP loses control of either chamber, saying, “Because if we lose, you’re going to lose your border. You’re going to lose your tax cuts. You’re going to lose your safety and security,” Trump said, according to Fox News Digital.
Trump defended his administration’s actions on foreign policy, including the conflict with Iran, saying critics who blamed rising gas prices were wrong because Iran had been “one month away from securing a nuclear weapon,” Fox News Digital reported. The outlet also reported that inflation has risen from 2.4% to 3.4% since the war began in February and that gas prices have increased. Fox News polling cited by the network showed 65% of voters disapprove of Trump’s handling of the economy.
He used the speech to boost Republican Senate candidates, including Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, criticized Democratic candidates as “radical left communists,” and touted what he described as foreign policy wins, saying after the arrest of former Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro that “65 billion barrels are ours,” Trump said, according to Fox News Digital. Attendees quoted by Fox News Digital offered praise for his economic and trade policies, including one RNC attendee and Jacquez Jones of Texas, while another attendee, Alex Stone of Kansas City, Missouri, said Trump’s message should expose “who they are, what they believe and what they plan on doing,” Fox News Digital reported.
