Lt. Gov. Peggy Flanagan was projected to win the Democratic primary for the U.S. Senate in Minnesota, defeating Rep. Angie Craig, Decision Desk HQ reported.
The contest was for the seat being vacated by Sen. Tina Smith, D-Minn., who is retiring. Decision Desk HQ issued the projection late Tuesday.
Flanagan ran against five other Democrats for the party’s nomination. Craig, a U.S. representative from Minnesota, had been considered her most formidable challenger.
Flanagan will advance to the general election in November, party officials said.
