James Woolsey, a former director of the Central Intelligence Agency, died Wednesday at age 84, his wife said. Woolsey served as CIA director during the Clinton administration in a brief and tumultuous tenure.
His wife, Conchita Sarnoff Woolsey, told The New York Times that he died from a stroke at their home in Washington, D.C. She provided the information to The Washington Post as well.
Woolsey’s time as CIA director was marked by internal challenges and political scrutiny. His death marks the end of a notable career in intelligence and public service.
