Amish Shah wins Democratic primary in Arizona’s 1st District, Decision Desk HQ reports

Former state Rep. Amish Shah defeated former broadcast journalist Marlene Galán-Woods in the Democratic primary for Arizona’s open 1st Congressional District, Decision Desk HQ reported Wednesday.

The result was a setback for national Democrats, who had lined up behind Galán-Woods, Decision Desk HQ said.

Decision Desk HQ described Galán-Woods as a Republican-turned-Democrat who was married to the late state Attorney General Grant Woods.

Decision Desk HQ reported that Shah will be the Democratic nominee for the open seat and advance to the general election.
