Secret Service investigates over 10,000 threats in 2026

U.S. Secret Service Director Sean Curran announced Wednesday that the agency has opened more than 10,000 investigations into threats against protectees in 2026.

Curran noted a 40 percent rise in threat investigations compared to last year, describing the number as “off the charts.” He attributed the increase to a more volatile environment across the country.

“The environment has become very volatile, and that’s just across the…” Curran said, though he did not specify further details. The agency continues to prioritize threat assessment and protection efforts amid the rising numbers.
