The United States announced plans to impose tariffs of 10% to 12.5% on imports from 60 countries, covering nearly all of its imported goods, according to U.S. officials.
The tariffs are a response to concerns that these countries have not sufficiently enforced bans on goods made with forced labor, the officials said. The affected nations account for 99% of U.S. imports.
The move aims to pressure countries to strengthen enforcement against forced labor practices and protect U.S. supply chains from illicit goods, the officials added.
The announcement comes amid ongoing efforts by the U.S. to combat forced labor and ensure ethical sourcing in international trade.
