Interior Department says D.C. height limits don’t apply to federal projects
The Interior Department has argued that Washington’s municipal height limits do not apply to federal projects, a position that departs from about a century of precedent, the department said.
The argument is before a panel reviewing a proposed arch linked to former President Donald Trump. If the panel accepts the department’s view, experts said, it could have broad effects on the city’s built environment.
Experts said the shift could alter how the capital’s skyline and federal land are governed, though they cautioned that the panel’s decision and any subsequent appeals would shape the ultimate outcome.
