Judge says Pentagon illegally punished Anthropic over AI criticism

A judge issued a written order Thursday night saying the Pentagon acted illegally by punishing the artificial intelligence company Anthropic for criticizing the Defense Department’s views on the use of AI, the order said.

The order said the measures taken against Anthropic were tied to the company’s criticism of the department’s stance on AI and described those measures as illegal and baseless, the judge wrote.

The order said the government is expected to fight the ruling.

The written order was filed Thursday night, the document shows.
