Macron urges Middle East leaders to help U.S., Iran seize peace opportunity

French President Emmanuel Macron on Sunday urged leaders in the Middle East to help the United States and Iran seize an urgent opportunity for a peace deal, he said.

Macron said months of war had resulted in the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, and that the chance for a settlement “must be seized now,” according to his remarks.

He said he had met with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Omani Sultan Haitham bin Tariq and leaders from the United Arab Emirates to press the point, Macron said.

Macron called on regional leaders to assist efforts toward a diplomatic resolution between Washington and Tehran, saying their involvement was essential to move the process forward, he said.
