Paxton to meet with Thune after winning GOP runoff for Senate seat

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton said Sunday he will meet with Senate Majority Leader John Thune after winning the GOP runoff to replace incumbent Sen. John Cornyn.

Since defeating Cornyn, a four-term incumbent, Paxton has been in contact with Thune, Senate Majority Whip John Barrasso of South Dakota, and Republican Conference Chair Sen. John Barrasso of Wyoming, according to Paxton.

Paxton’s victory in the runoff sets the stage for a potential general election matchup in Texas, a key battleground state. The Republican primary victory was seen as a significant step in Paxton’s effort to secure the party’s nomination for the Senate seat.

Details about the upcoming meetings or Paxton’s campaign plans were not specified in the statement.
