Mamdani says Democrats have ‘lost focus’ on working people
New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani said Saturday that Democrats have lost sight of economic issues facing working-class Americans as the party rebuilds after its defeat in the 2024 presidential election, he said.
“The party, as a whole, has lost its focus on working people,” Mamdani said in an interview.
Mamdani, a Democrat, made the remarks as the party seeks to regroup following the presidential contest. He said the shift away from those economic concerns has damaged the party’s connection with working-class voters.
The mayor did not offer a detailed plan in the interview for how Democrats should change course, and his comments come amid broader debate within the party about strategy and priorities after the 2024 loss.
