May Day rallies draw protesters to cities across U.S.
Americans took to the streets Friday for May Day, also known as International Workers’ Day, organizers and local media reported.
The day commemorates the 1886 Haymarket Affair, when a Chicago protest for an eight-hour workday turned into a violent clash between demonstrators and police, labor historians said.
Some cities saw “Workers Over Billionaires” rallies and marches this year, organizers said.
