Conor McGregor said he tore the anterior cruciate ligament and meniscus in his right knee during his July 11 loss to Max Holloway at UFC 329 in Las Vegas, calling the diagnosis “quite shocking,” he wrote on X.
“Update: it was acl and meniscus,” McGregor posted on X. He said the injury is the same as the one he suffered in his first fight with Holloway, only on the opposite leg. “With today’s regenerative medicine advancements and improved training methods it is well within my realm to return by next summer,” he wrote.
McGregor attempted a jumping roundhouse kick early in the fight, landed and immediately grabbed his right knee before hitting the canvas. Max Holloway pressed the attack as McGregor tried to defend, and referee Mike Beltran stopped the bout seconds into the first round, awarding Holloway a technical knockout.
After the match McGregor wrote on X, “My head gasket is gone. Destroyed.” His camp released pre-fight footage that showed him rehearsing the jumping roundhouse kicks in the locker room and landing them without issue, according to the camp.
The loss left McGregor with a 22-7 UFC record. McGregor, 38, said he was walking without a crutch and had begun light leg-extension work. He thanked supporters and wrote, “your health is your wealth,” and expressed hope for a return next summer in his X post.
