Rep. Haley Stevens, D-Mich., and former Wayne County health director Abdul El-Sayed met in their second one-on-one debate one week before the Aug. 4 Democratic primary to replace retiring Sen. Gary Peters, D-Mich., according to campaign schedules.
The candidates clashed over corporate influence and support for Israel, with El-Sayed hammering Stevens over what he described as tens of millions of dollars pouring into the contest, according to the debate.
The debate marked another sharply contested face-off in a competitive primary, with both candidates seeking to define the race in its closing days, according to observers of the event.
The outcome of the Aug. 4 primary will determine the Democratic nominee to run for the Senate seat being vacated by Peters, who announced his retirement earlier in the cycle.
