Three leading Republican candidates for Michigan governor traded sharp attacks during a heated primary debate Wednesday night, with less than a month remaining before the party’s primary, according to the event.
At the debate, opponents directed criticism at U.S. Rep. John James, R-Mich., singling him out during several exchanges, according to observers at the event.
Candidates also sparred with one another on policy and electability during the forum, repeatedly interrupting and challenging one another’s records, according to the debate proceedings.
The contest will determine the GOP nominee for governor in the upcoming primary. Campaigns and party officials are preparing for the vote as the candidates continue to court supporters in the closing weeks before the election.
