Platner wins Maine Democratic primary amid sexting allegations

Graham Platner easily won the Democratic primary Tuesday and will challenge Sen. Susan Collins, R-Maine, in the general election, results released Tuesday showed.

Platner, a progressive oyster farmer, had been widely expected to win the contest, according to political observers.

His campaign was roiled in recent days by reporting about a sexting scandal and allegations of toxic conduct from several ex-girlfriends, according to recent news accounts.

The victory officially sets up what many consider a marquee Senate race for this year, according to political analysts.
