Nirav Shah announced Sunday that he was dropping out of the Democratic primary for U.S. Senate, Shah said in a statement, a day after addressing party delegates in Augusta.
Shah, the former director of the Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention, told delegates that he had entered the race “a few weeks ago” because he could not accept the idea of Sen. Susan Collins “gliding to a sixth term,” according to his remarks in Augusta.
He spoke to delegates in Augusta on Saturday and made the withdrawal announcement the following day, Shah said.
The announcement ends Shah’s short-lived bid for the Democratic nomination for the Senate seat, removing him from the field vying to challenge Collins in the general election.
