Santa Fe festival dedicates John Harbison piano quintet to Georgia O’Keeffe
The Santa Fe Chamber Music Festival commissioned and dedicated a piano quintet by composer John Harbison to artist Georgia O’Keeffe, honoring her association with New Mexico landscapes.
CBS News reported in a “Sunday Morning” segment that aired Aug. 30, 1981, that the festival had commissioned the work and that the music, like O’Keeffe’s paintings, “translates stark and unfilled spaces.” The segment was reported by Bruce Morton.
The archived piece visited O’Keeffe and noted her links to the landscapes and desert flowers of New Mexico, the report said.
