Trump attacks ex-adviser John Bolton after guilty plea

President Donald Trump on Friday criticized his former national security adviser, John Bolton, after Bolton pleaded guilty to improperly retaining sensitive materials from his time in the White House.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump wrote, “John Bolton, a very dumb, unbalanced, and unskilled former representative of the United States of America, just pleads guilty!” He added, “Hopefully, he will be dealt with harshly!”

Bolton pleaded guilty Friday to improperly retaining sensitive materials, according to court filings.

Bolton served as national security adviser in the Trump administration. The Justice Department filing and Bolton’s plea provided the legal basis for the president’s remarks, which echoed long-standing tensions between the two men.
