Shofar to Sound as Rosh Hashanah Begins Friday

Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year, begins at sunset Friday, and many Jews around the world mark the holiday by hearing the shofar, according to Jewish tradition.

The shofar is an animal horn blown like a trumpet, the tradition says.

For many worshippers, hearing the shofar is a highlight of the observance, Jewish tradition holds.
