U.S. military sends rapid response unit to Venezuela after earthquakes, Southcom says

The U.S. military is sending additional resources to Venezuela after a pair of devastating earthquakes, U.S. South Command (Southcom) said Saturday.

Southcom said a specialized rapid response unit was on its way to Venezuela to assist.

Southcom said the move comes as the death toll continues to mount and tens of thousands of people are believed to be missing following the quakes.

Southcom announced the deployment Saturday but provided no further details in its statement, officials said.
