Former Fever player alleges team hid harassment after Cunningham remarks

Former Indiana Fever player Brianna Turner said the team fired a male staff member over sexual-harassment allegations and instructed players not to discuss the matter publicly, Turner wrote on X.

Turner made the post after WNBA player Sophie Cunningham defended protecting women’s sports for biological females during an ESPN interview. Cunningham told ESPN she wants to “protect young girls in a locker room, or young girls in sport who shouldn’t have to go against biological men,” according to the interview.

Turner, who played for the Fever in 2025 and now plays for the Las Vegas Aces, criticized Cunningham’s comments and defended trans inclusion on X. “To date there’s been one out trans player in the league. They caused zero problems,” Turner wrote, and cited former WNBA player Layshia Clarendon. Turner added that alleged sexism, misogyny, homophobia and racism within organizations were the real issues.

The Indiana Fever issued a statement Thursday saying the team’s “top priority” is “protecting our players and employees and maintaining a respectful, professional workplace.” The team said it takes concerns seriously, investigates thoroughly and acts promptly when appropriate, and added that it does not comment on personnel matters involving former employees. As of Thursday, the WNBA had not announced an investigation or publicly commented on Turner’s allegations.
