Vance departs for Switzerland; Strait of Hormuz status unclear

Vice President J.D. Vance departed for Switzerland on Saturday for technical-level talks on an interim cease-fire deal between the United States and Iran, U.S. officials said.

Officials said the deal aims to halt fighting, reopen the Strait of Hormuz and begin nuclear negotiations.

The discussions had been scheduled to begin Friday but were delayed by an escalation in fighting between Israel and Hezbollah in the region, U.S. officials said.

Officials said the status of the Strait of Hormuz remained unclear and they did not immediately provide further details about the timing or agenda of the talks.
